A Lack of Support
Miillions have been affected by mesothelioma and lung related diseases. Currently, there is much being done to treat as well as compensate these people. However, despite the fact that there are programs that assist the needs of our countries veterans, very little is being done for the veterans who have been diagnosed with mesothelioma. What many do not realize is that asbestos exposure related diseases are brought about by the negligent employers whose responsibility was to protect their workers and make them aware of the dangers they were being exposed to in their work environment. There is no excuse or reason for military veterans not to receive the same health treatments, compensations and benefits as the workers who were exposed to asbestos in construction yards or in their homes.
Unfortunately, military personnel that are currently suffering from mesothelioma or are receiving little or no recognition for their disease. The Department of Veteran Affairs and the Department of the Navy did not advise either the US military or shipyard workers from 1940 to 1970 of the risks to their health associated with asbestos exposure. Additionally, these are departments that are supposed to be support systems for those who served our country yet they are still not addressing the problem nor are they informing any of its past or present personnel about the danger asbestos poses. Fortunately, those diagnosed with mesothelioma have resources and guides, via the internet and user support groups, to help guide them through diagnosis and treatment.
If you or a loved one think that you have been diagnosed with mesothelioma or another asbestos exposure related disease contracted during military service, it is important to contact a doctor immediately. Symptoms such as chest pain, and difficulty breathing are often signs of other conditions, so it is important that the patient gets a diagnosis from a doctor. Much more research is needed to obtain information about mesothelioma and other asbestos related diseases. VeteransMeso.com believes all who suffer from mesothelioma and other asbestos related disease should be treated equally when it comes to treatment, emotional support and compensation.
